ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC
ROYAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC
Angell has had a passion for music since a very young age, she began her violin study at age of 4 in Guan Jen School of music in Taiwan. She received intensive integrated music training and had participated in many competitions and concerts in Taiwan and abroad. In 2003, Angell was honoured to receive a music scholarship to study in U.K. at Millfield School, where she studied violin with Clive Hughes. It was during this period of study Angell found her voice as a composer, which allowed her to express herself more organically. After graduating from Millfield School, Angell successfully gained her place to study Composition with Alison Kay at the Royal College of Music, where she also continued her violin study and completed her degree with Honours in Bachelor of Music in 2012.
With a strong performance and compositional music background, Angell was awarded a scholarship to further enhance her compositional study with David Sawer at the Royal Academy of Music and in 2014, Angell accomplished the Lena Pritchard Green Award and gained her Master of Art with the Mosco Carner Scholarship.
Angell has had a rich teaching experience since 2010; she specialises in teaching and building fundamental music techniques for beginners. She has been known for giving her pupils a fantastic foundation for dexterity on their instrument. Angell also has an excellent insight on her students’ individuality which ensure she provides the best and most appropriate support to her students. Her delicate style of teaching with her bubbly personality encourages a compassionate bond between her and her students.
Angell continues to work as a composer on a range collaborations with artists, to commissions and other external compositional projects across the U.K. and Taiwan. These include the piece ‘Cocoon’ for ‘In-The-House Project’ commissioned by the Spitalfields Festival. ’Festoon’ and ‘Hydrophilicity’ - two commissioned animate collaborations premiered in Birmingham and London. More recently, Angell was invited to write music for a contemporary dance production - ‘Karma’, premiered in Central Saint Martins. Angell’s writing style is often inspired by mother nature and will be felt at the heart of her compositions using narrative and imagery from this world. A key element that triggers her imaginative compositions is the inspiration she gathers from the beauty that lies within visual art.
